A lot more people are getting degrees these days. While that may seem like a good thing, there are two sides to that coin. On one hand, a more educated populace is always a good thing. On the other hand, more people with degrees lessens the value of said degree. A bachelor’s degree is pretty much a high school diploma at this point.

With the rising costs of tuition, a lot of people are coming to the conclusion that getting a degree isn’t worth it. Does that mean you’re dead in the water and forced to work awful jobs for the rest of your life? Of course not! There are still plenty of great jobs that you can get without a college degree. Here is a list of five careers you can have without a college degree.

5. Commercial Pilots

You’ve probably come to notice that there aren’t a lot of flying classes at your local city college. That’s because becoming a commercial pilot does not require a college education. You do have to know how to fly a plane; this can be achieved at flight school. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are a projected 19,300 job openings through 2020.

4. Business Administration

Having a good mind for business doesn’t require a degree. In fact, it isn’t even necessary to go to business school. Generally speaking, business administration is a pretty high position. With that being said, you can eventually find your way at the top of companies if you get involved with a business fairly early. Another advantage to business administration is the variety of industries it encompasses. Examples can range from a Toronto trucking company like Meyers Transport Inc to an administrative position with a marketing company such as OrangeSoda.

3. Animal Caretaker

For those that love pets, this can be a great avenue for you. Animal caretakers aren’t vets. A lot of your tasks would include grooming, exercising, and feeding the pets of others. It doesn’t take a degree and it can be a lot of fun.

2. YouTube Personality

This may seem like a joke, but it isn’t. YouTube personalities can make money for a variety of different things. There are a bunch of people that are willing to watch someone talk about something. Do you like movies? Film yourself doing film reviews. Do you know how to play piano? Film yourself doing virtual lessons. The possibilities are almost limitless on YouTube. There are quite a few people that make their entire living on YouTube.

1. Web Designer

The great thing about web design is that your work speaks for itself. If you do great work, it isn’t going to matter of you have a degree in web design or not. In addition to that, it’s easy to learn web design just by experimenting.

All in all, there are many different jobs that you can land without getting a degree. While getting a degree may be preferable for some, you may come to find that it isn’t for you. If you fall into that category, look into some of these careers as possible options for you.
